Let Me Be Perfectly Clear

Straight Talk

I am NOT a "Tree-Hugger." At least I am not who that term conjures. I am not a hippie-crunchy granola girl. I am not a "commie" or a "pinko" (those terms are used ONLY in jest and LOVE for my friends who are). I am not even a democrat (hell I'm a Bible-belt Georgia girl what did you expect). I AM an advocate of personal responsibility, honesty, big business, capitalism, true liberty, and the entrepreneurial spirit. I believe that when a person works harder and better he will have more and go further and THAT IS GOOD.

It is easy to feel pressured to obsession with "GREEN" efforts; I don't. I am conscious of my surroundings and my personal impact and influence. I do my best to eat organic, use less, give more, recycle as I go, and pay attention to life.

The notions of living "off-the-grid" and homesteading seem interesting (I blame Little House on The Prairie), even appealing - that's SO not me. I enjoy (a lot) my GIANT POWER SUCKING T.V. and my needs-to-be-replaced Air Conditioning. I like meat, dairy, leather shoes, and most modern conveniences of life. So you won't see me building a Yurt or doing my laundry in the river, but you might run into me at the local library borrowing instead of buying (after I pay my $42.00 late fine).

My Point:
I TiVoed the entire Planet Green line-up.

I'll keep you posted!

Given my neighbors, I could so live in a yurt... on a nice quiet mountain (at least in the summer - when Gardening season is on! LOL!) but I guess I'll stick with my home for little while anyway! LOL!

But I'm with you! Yes, I cloth diaper (sometimes), yes I try to cut my energy bills (sometimes because I grew up in the 70s-80s energy crisis! LOL!), and recycle (as much as I can).... but most of that is because I'm cheap. Being Green often helps save money - as well as the planet, I mean heck if they want to give me 10 cents back, for bringing my own bags (and I can express my creativity that way) I'm all for it! LOL! I try to practice the 3Rs for the environment and not succumb to the big industry's notion of being GREEN.

If it isn't practical or reasonable I probably don't do it.

I wouldn't say that I feel pressured but I am trying to be more conscious about things. I love my reusable shopping bags, I recycle as much as is allowed, etc. For me, it's more of I'm trying to do my part in keeping the earth as nice as possible for my kids, and their kids, and so on.

That made me laugh. I'm down with the Green Movement but if someone steps to me and even HINTS that I should get rid of my tv, all my Quaker, hippie training is OUT the window and we are going to throw down.

I found your site through your comment on mine and I'm glad I did.

I love this post! While I most certainly believe that we should be good stewards of the earth that God has blessed us with, I will not take it to the extreme of earth worship!

Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog; its always nice to get some encouragement!

I completely agree. And many so-called green initiatives have repercussions not expected. (although they should have been) Ethanol to fuel your car? Food prices go up. Use fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent? They contain mercury. And there is only 1 place in my province that can deal with them. Not nearly enough if we all change over! Otherwise the bulbs go into the landfill and mercury into our water. Just to name 2 examples.
